Oxford, Mississippi is a city located in Lafayette County, in the northern region of the state. The city is situated approximately 70 miles south of Memphis, Tennessee and 130 miles southeast of Little Rock, Arkansas. Oxford is home to the University of Mississippi, also known as Ole Miss, which is a major economic and cultural center for the city. The city is also known for its historic downtown area, which features a number of shops, restaurants, and cultural institutions. The Oxford Square is the central hub of the downtown area and is located approximately 1 mile east of the university campus. Other points of interest in Oxford include the Rowan Oak estate, the home of author William Faulkner, and the Lamar Park recreational area.
